CHRIS GORE is a writer, filmmaker, speaker, television host and commentator who has built a solid reputation as an outspoken voice in the independent film world. He was named one of the 25 Most Influential People in Independent Film by Film Festival Today magazine.
Chris is most widely known as the hilariously honest, down-to-earth creator and editor of Film Threat. Chris started Film Threat as a college fanzine in Detroit. As the fanzine evolved into a respected national magazine, he relocated to Los Angeles where the magazine became famous for covering cult flicks, midnight movies, underground shorts and, before a market even emerged, independent films. The print magazine was retired in 1997 when it was relaunched as a web site. FilmThreat.com’s audience consists of over 500,000 readers generating 15 million hits a month. In fact, the Wall Street Journal named Film Threat one of the top five movie web sites on the Internet. Recently Chris launched a Film Threat DVD distribution label to promote indie films that he felt deserved to be seen by wider audiences.
Chris has appeared as a film expert on MSNBC, E!, CNN, Reelz Channel and has also hosted shows on FX, Starz, IFC and currently on G4TV’s “Attack of the Show” where his weekly movie review segment DVDuesday is among the most popular. He recently sold a show called “Hollywood on the Rocks” to the Ovation Network.
Chris is an author having written “The 50 Greatest Movies Never Made” (St. Martin’s Press) and “The Complete DVD Book” (Michael Wiese Publications). His book “The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide” (Random House) is considered the bible of the industry. The festival guide is required reading for many college film programs and a 4th edition is due in late 2009. Chris is very active in the festival world – he was the program director for Sonoma Valley Film Festival, was the keynote speaker at the very first International Film Festival Summit, serves on several festival advisory boards and was named one of the 25 most influential people in independent film by Film Festival Today magazine. As a feature writer, his opinionated stories have appeared in magazines, online and trade publications such as The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Video Business, Total Movie, Spin, Blender, Details, Suicide Girls and Playboy.com.
He has recently ventured into indie filmmaking having co-written and produced the feature comedy “My Big Fat Independent Movie” (Anchor Bay DVD) which toured 40 film festivals worldwide and can be seen on Showtime and the Sundance Channel.
Chris considers himself a movie geek who was lucky enough to forge a career working as a full-fledged “Nerdlebrity.”
