Jeffrey Birnbaum

Jeff Birnbaum is a political contributor for FOX News Channel (FNC.) He is a columnist with the Washington Post and can be seen on FNC's "Special Report with Brit Hume." Birnbaum joined FNC in 1998.

Previously, Birnbaum served as chief managing editor of Fortune magazine's Washington, D.C., bureau where he specialized in covering the intersection of government and business with an emphasis on politics.

Earlier, Birnbaum worked as a senior political correspondent for Fortune's sister publication, Time. Before joining Time in 1995, he worked for The Wall Street Journal for 16 years. During his tenure at the Wall Street Journal, Birnbaum served as a White House correspondent, where he won the Aldo Beckman Award for Excellence in feature writing about the presidency in 1994.

Birnbaum is the author of four books, the most recent, "The Money Men: The Real Story of Fundraising's Influence on Political Power in America." His first book, "Showdown at Gucci Gulch," was the winner of the American Political Science Association's coveted Carey McWilliams Award in 1988. Birnbaum's other books include The Washington Post bestseller "The Lobbyists" and the Pulitzer Prize nominated "Madhouse."

A native of Scranton, Birnbaum graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977.
